Death toll rises to 38 in Logar suicide attack

PUL-I-ALAM (PAN): The death toll from yesterday’s suicide attack targeting a hospital in Logar province has risen to 38, and the number of injured to 50, officials said Sunday.

The attack occurred around 11:20 am on Saturday when a car loaded with explosives was driven into the Azrah district’s central hospital.

Three women workers and a midwife, according to Dr. Mohammad Wali Naib, director of the public health department, and District Police Chief Col. Baktyar Gul.

Gul added that police had launched investigation into the suicide attack.

The initial death toll was 35, but three of the injured died later on Saturday, raising the death toll to 38.

Some of the remaining injured were taken to Sardar Daud hospital in Kabul in critical condition, Gul said. Others were taken home by their relatives.

Saif Wali, a resident of the district, lost eight family members in the attack. “My family members went to the hospital when all of them were killed in the attack,” he said.
