KABUL to renounce violence and join the peace process.
Hundreds of clerics from Khost, Paktia, Paktika, Ghazni, Logar, Maidan Wardak and Kabul provinces attended the gathering to discuss the role of religious scholars in bringing peace, stability, national unity, and reconciliation with the insurgents.
Maulvi Abdul Hakim Munib, one of the participants, urged the Taliban to join the peace process and take part in the country’s developmentand prosperity.
“The ulema,” he said.
Minister of Hajj and Religious Affairs Mohammad Yousuf Niazi highlighted the importance of mosques and religious schools at the meeting. He said he believed that religious scholars could play an important role in finding a solutionto the ongoing conflict.
Attaullah Ludin, DeputyHigh Peace Council Chairman, said imams were critical to bringing peaceandstability to the country.
He said Afghanistan had suffered from thirty years of war and it was the time to work for peace. He urged the gathering’s participants to make an effort at bringing peace in the country.
