KANDAHARCITY (PAN): A police commander, two policemen, and two attackers were killed in a gun battle Wednesday in Kandahar City, official said.
A group of militants stormed the headquarters of the first police district in Kandahar City, killing Col. Gulab, the 1st district police chief and two policemen, the governor’s spokesman, Zalmay Ayubi, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
Three policemen and three civilians were injured in the clash. They were evacuated to Mirwais hospital, he said.
The firefight ended with the death of the two attackers around 10:00 am, he said.
A doctor on duty at Mirwais hospital said that four dead bodies and six injured people had been taken to the hospital.
Separately, a statement from the Interior Ministry said that a hideout from which militants supervised roadside attacks, made bombs, and planned terrorist activities had been destroyed in a police operation in Kandahar City’s first police district on Tuesday night.
A commander was among two militants killed. Explosives were also seized during the operation, the statement said.
The Ministry confirmed in the statement that three policemen including Col. Gulab Khan were killed, and six others injured in Wednesdsay’s firefight.
