MOHMUD RAQI/PUL-I-ALAM (PAN): Thirteen insurgents and two policemen were killed and 17 others were injured in two separate operations in central Kapisa and Logar provinces, officials said on Saturday.

One clash erupted late on Friday night and lasted Saturday noon in the Ghayan area of Nijrab district in Kapisa, where militants attacked a police check-post.

A dozen insurgents and two local policemen were killed and 17 others, including four local policemen, injured,  Col. Asadullah Hamidi, the provincial police spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

The assailants came from the Shpai valley of Ala Sai district, Atta Mohammad Nazari, the district police chief, said.

Elsewhere in the country, a Taliban commander was killed and six fighters were detained during a combined operation in the Baraki Barak district of central Logar province, said Col. Ghulam Sakhi Rogh Laiwani, the provincial police chief.

Mohammad Rahim Amin, the district chief, said the operation targeted militant bases in the area. There was no immediate comment from the Taliban about the incident.
