KUNDUZ CITY (PAN projects, benefiting more than 15,000 families, were completed in northern Kunduz province, officials said on Monday.
The reconstruction schemes included the pavement of a 43-kilomtre road, 192 small bridges, 181 wells and 12 tailoring and carpet-weaving courses.
The projects were executed in Imam Sahib, Dasht-i-Archi districts and the provincial capital, Kunduz City, said Abdul Rab Hakimi, the regional head of rural rehabilitation and development.
A water supply project, the installation of a solar system and the construction of two small water dams, irrigating 400 acres of land, were completed in six months, he said. The projects cost 58 million afghanis ($1.2 million), he added.
Enayatullah, a resident of the Haji Mir Sarfaraz village in Dasht-i-Archi district, said that earlier they had to face several problems in the absence of bridges on canals and due to the unpaved road. However, he said all their problems were resolved with the construction of bridges and pavement of the road.
In Asadabad, the capital city of eastern Kunar, two school buildings —one for boys and another for girls — were inaugurated on Monday. Funded by the US Provincial Reconstruction Team, the projects cost $428,000, Education Director Syed Jamaluddin Hussaini said.
Each building has 10 rooms, chairs, water, solar power and other facilities, he said.
The buildings would help resolve problems earlier faced by students due to a lack of proper buildings, he said.
As many as 600 girls attend their classes at the girls’ school and more than 1,400 children have been studying in the boys’ schools.
