Placed in Group-A, the Afghan side is participating in the event along with the three Asian cricket powers — India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal and the hosts are also taking part.
The cup, a sideline activity of the SAARC Summit, is being played at the purpose-built stadium on the beautiful island of Fuvahmulah in Addu Atoll.
The under-25 Afghanistan skipper Hameed Hassan won the toss and elected to bat first against Bhutan, coach Raees Ahmadzai, told Pajhwok Afghan News from the Maldives over the telephone.
Afghans were able to pile up 295 runs in the 20 overs game. But Bhutanese could not chase the target and scored only 70 runs in 20 overs for loss of eight wickets.
