PUL-I-KHUMRI (PAN): A teenage married girl, who was locked up in a toilet for six months by her in-laws in northern Baghlan province, would be flown to India for treatment, officials said on Friday.
Last week, Baghlan police rescued the 15-year-old after her parents informed police. Married to Mohammad Azim, 30, nine months ago, Saur Gul was locked up after she refused to have sex with the men brought home by her in-laws.
A doctor at the Baghlan Civil Hospital told Pajhwok Afghan News the victim, who had suffered serious injuries, would be taken to India for medical treatment. Currently, Dr. Mohammad Akbar Siddiqui said, she was in stable condition.
Meanwhile, Baghlan police chief head Brig. Gen. Asadullah Sherzad said all-out efforts were being made to detain Gul’s spouse, who allegedly used to beat her and denied her enough food. The girl’s mother-in-law has already been arrested.
The victim’s parents are living in Badakhshan, according to Women‘s Affairs Director Rahima Zafari, who has demanded the criminals’ early arrest and punishment.
Dr. Gul Mohammad Wardak, the hospital director, said the girl had her nails pulled out with pliers and there were burn signs on her body.
