KABUL) on Thursday congratulated Afghan border and customs police on their momentous seizure of 16,000 kilograms of ammonium chlorate in the Spin Boldak district odf southern Kandahar province.
An ISAF statement said the 3rd Kandak of Afghan Border Police Zone 3 and Afghan Customs Police discovered the cache of 342 bags in a truck while conducting a dismounted patrol in the border town on Wednesday. No friendly force or civilian casualties or damage were reported during the seizure.
Ammonium chlorate had been used by insurgents to produce homemade explosives commonly found in improvised explosive devices, said the statement. The seizure showed the increasing professional capability of Afghan forces in stopping potential insurgent activity, it added.
