KANDAHAR CITY (PAN): A poetry session, attended by dozens of poets and writers, was held in the Arghandab district of southern Kandahar province, officials said on Friday.
Poets from different provinces of the country and other countries took part in the overnight event, the governor’s spokesman Javed Faisal told Pajhwok Afghan News.
Abdul Bari Jihani, who came from the United States, was a chief guest at the session — billed as Anar Gul, or pomegranate flower.
Governor Toryalai Weesa, the director of the information and culture, as well as other local officials, participated in the poetry session that started at 6pm and ended at 3am at Baba Wali mausoleum.
Speaking on the occasion, the governor said Arghandab once served as an entertainment hub for Kandahar residents who would converge on the district in the past.
Such sessions played an important role in promoting Pakhto poetry, remarked Jihani, who said he felt happy participating in such events.
Literary sittings helped the cause of unity and proximity among Pakhtun on both sides of Durand Line, said a poet from Quetta city of Balochistan, Ismatullah Zaheer.
