WASHINGTON (PAN): US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, who returned to work on Monday after a month of illness, will meet Afghan President Hamid Karzai later this week and host a working dinner for him, her aides said.
Clinton is scheduled to host a working dinner for Karzai after a meeting with him on Thursday evening. This would be her first meeting with a foreign leader after she fell ill due to a stomach infection during her European tour.
The two leaders are expected to discuss a wide range of issues, including the progress being made toward security transition and the US presence in post-2014-Afghanistan.
A day later, Clinton will be present during Karzai’s meetings at the White House, including one with President Barack Obama.
During her illness, Clinton was forced to work from home, cancelling all her foreign trips. For a brief period, she was admitted to a New York City hospital due to a blood clot in her head.
Clinton has announced she will leave the Obama cabinet at the end of his first term later this month. Obama, who would be sworn in for the second term on Jan. 20, has nominated Senator John Kerry, chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, to succeed her.
