MAIMANA (PAN): One rebel was killed and two others injured during a clash with police in the Almar district of northern Faryab province, an official said on Saturday.
The militants attacked police check-posts in district on Friday afternoon, but they were beaten back when security reinforcements reached the scene.
Provincial police chief, Brig. Gen. Nabi Jan Mullahkhel, told Pajhwok Afghan News the clash continued until midnight and security forces escaped unhurt. The attackers managed to flee.
But Taliban spokesman, Qari Yousaf Ahmadi, insisted security personnel had suffered casualties. Without giving details, he claimed the fighters had captured parts of the town.
