HERAT CITY (PAN): Police on Wednesday claimed to have recovered 1200 kilograms of drugs from four Iranian nationals after they were arrested in Farah city, the capital of western Farah province bordering Iran, a day earlier.

The men were travelling in a car when police stopped them during a cordon late on Tuesday, border police commander Lt. Gen. Sher Ahmad Muldani told Pajhwok Afghan News.

He said the seizure included 1,174kg of opium and 26kg of hashish. The detainees wanted to smuggle the drugs to their homeland in a pickup vehicle.

Muldani said border police seized five tonnes of narcotics in Farah over the past 10 months and arrested five Iranian nationals, not including the newly arrested, in connection with the seizures.
