Speaking at a gathering organised by the Transparent Election Foundation of Afghanistan (TEFA) in Kabul, Manawi said some politicians were trying to create distrust among the masses about the upcoming elections, but the independent election commission was aware of its importance.
He said the 2014 elections would decide the fate of the country and as well as of the region, asking the government, opposition political parties and the international community to help build trust about the next elections.
Manawi said fair and free elections were key to strengthening democracy and bringing stability to the country, asking political parties and civil society groups to play their part towards that end.
He warned in case of their failure to conduct a fair and transparent presidential ballot, a weak government would come into being that would not be able to stay in the face of current challenges.

He said political parties and civil societies could play a vital in holding of transparent elections.
TEFA chief Mohammad Naeem Ayoubzada said the meeting was aimed at discussing ways how to have a satisfactory turnout of women in the 2014 elections. He asked the electoral body to ensure gender equality in all its procedures.
