KABUL Gen. Joseph F. Dunford on Thursday pledged to continue a constructive dialogue to resolve the remaining issues to complete the handover of the Bagram jail in central Parwan province.
An ISAF statement said Gen. Dunford, who called on President Karzai at his office, discussed with the Afghan leader the transfer of the facility to Afghan control.
Both parties discussed the remaining issues and pledged to continue a constructive dialogue to complete the handover, the statement said.
“The United States is committed to transferring the detention facility in Parwan to Afghan control. It must be done in a way that meets the needs of Afghan sovereignty while mitigating the real threats that some of these detainees pose to Afghan and coalition forces,” the statement quoted Dunford as saying.
He added they would complete the transfer when the remaining issues were resolved.
