SHIBERGHAN (PAN) airstrike in northern Jawzjan province, an intelligence official said on Thursday.
The militant commander was identified as Dost Mohammad, a member of the Taliban military commission for the Chahar Bulak district of Balkh province.
A National Directorate of Security (NDS) official, who did not want to be named, told Pajhwok Afghan News that the overnight air raid happened in an area on the outskirts of Shiberghan.
He revealed the Taliban commander had come to meet his associates in the Tarnab Afghania village, where he was killed. The strike caused civilians no harm, the source said.
Resident Haji Mohammad said: “With help from some villagers, we collected went to the scene, collected the commander’s body parts and put them in a bag. The remains were handed to NDS agents.”
A statement from the NATO-led force, meanwhile, confirmed that an Afghan and coalition security force killed an insurgent during an operation in Shiberghan.
But a Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, said the group had no commander by the name of Dost Mohammad in Jawzjan.
