KABUL): A 20-kilometre road is being constructed in Uruzgan, the first-ever mega project of its kind in the central province over the past decade, officials said on Thursday.
A contract to the effect was signed between the Ministry of Public Works and a local construction firm called Afghan Sadaqat Construction Company in Kabul, Public Works Minister Najibullah Awzhan told Pajhwok Afghan News.
The road — a 414 million afghanis project — between Tirinkot, the provincial capital, and Dehrawud district would be constructed in line with international standards over the next eight months, he said.
He asked the company to complete the road within the stipulated time and warned the contract would be terminated if construction work on the road was delayed.
Uruzgan Governor Amir Mohammad Akhunzada said it was the first-ever development project to be executed in his province over the past 12 years.
Due to non-implementation of projects in Uruzgan, the youth there were prone to joining the Taliban, he said.
