KABUL): The Presidential Palace on Tuesday endorsed a Supreme Court verdict awarding capital punishment to two individuals in a kidnap-murder case of a child.
The pair has been sentenced to death for kidnapping an eight-year-old boy, Ali Sina, the son of an industrialist in western Herat province, and killing him despite receiving ransom money.
A statement issued by the Council of Ministers Secretariat said the endorsement came at a meeting of the Presidential Palace’s judicial committee chaired by President Karzai.
The statement said the convicts — Abdul Sami, son of Abdul Zahir, and Jalil Ahmad, son of Ghulam Surwar, residents of the Injeel district — had brutally murdered Ali Sina after his abduction.
Ali Sina, the son of Nasir Ahmad Noori, a local industrialist, was killed last year after being kidnapped.
The incident sparked angry protests by hundreds of people in Herat, demanding death sentences for the kidnapers.
