KABUL): A group of suicide bombers stormed the governor’s office in central Pajnsher province early Wednesday morning, officials said.
The predawn attack took place at 3:30am when a suicide bomber detonated his explosives in front of the entrance to the governor’s house, allowing six others to reach the second gate and trade fire with policemen.
A spokesman for the Ministry of Interior, Ghulam Siddique Siddiqui, told Pajhwok Afghan News all six attackers were shot dead by security personnel during a 30-minute gun battle.
One policeman was also killed and four others were wounded in the fire exchange, he said. “Overpowering the attackers shows the capacity and strength of police.”
But a Taliban spokesman, Qari Yousuf Ahmadi, said eight security guards of the governor’s office were killed during the clash.
