WASHINGTON (PAN, the security transition and post-2014 policy formulations, with leaders of the G-8 countries in Northern Ireland next week, the White House said on Friday.
Leaders of world‘s eight wealthiest countries called G-8– Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Russia, Britain and the United States – would meet for their 39th summit in Northern Ireland on June 17 and 18.
“Afghanistan will certainly be a subject. As we approach our milestone of transitioning lead responsibility for security to the Afghans, they can discuss a transition underway in Afghanistan, as well as our plans for supporting the Afghan government after 2014,” Ben Rhodes, the Deputy National Security Advisor, told reporters at a news conference.
Rhodes said Obama would also discuss Afghanistan during his bilateral meetings with the Russian President and with the German Chancellor.
Russia has cooperated with the US in securing both the transit routes for US troops and also promoting stability in the region, Rhodes said.
