LASHKARGAH (PAN): The police chief escaped unhurt in a car suicide bombing that ripped through his convoy on a main road in Lashkargah, the capital of southern Helmand, injuring three people, an official said.
The attacker crashed his explosives-laden car into the police chief Nabi Ilham’s armoured vehicle around 6:30am near the Latif Square, the deputy governor said.
Ahmad Massoud Bakhtawar told Pajhwok Afghan News Ilham survived the attack, but a civilian and two police guards were injured.
Ilham said he was on his way to work when the attack occurred, damaging his vehicle and injuring his two guards and a passerby.
He said he would continue to fight against the enemies of Afghanistan and hostile elements who had put the lives of Afghan people at risk.
The injured shopkeeper, Timur Shah, said he was carrying goods for his shop from a nearby market when the blast took place
“I saw the police chief coming down from his vehicle and was driven away in another police vehicle,” he said.
