MAZAR-I-SHARIF (PAN): Officials said on Monday they had made elaborate arrangements for Eidul Fitr to avert possible terrorist activity in northern Balkh province.
Police chief Brig. Gen. Salam Ihsas told a press conference in Mazar-i-Sharif, the provincial capital, the security plan for Eid had been jointly finalised by police and intelligence personnel.
He said the security situation in the provincial capital and districts was not worrisome. The main highway leading to northern provinces had been secured with the establishment of additional posts.
He said their information showed there was no severe security threat in the province, rating security threats in Chamtal, Char Bolak and Sholgar districts as medium and low.
He revealed some suspects had been arrested in the said districts for having links with the Taliban and planting mines on roads.
The police chief said the enemy had always tried to create insecurity during Eid days, but Afghan forces in cooperation with the masses would be able to thwart their designs.
