KABUL): The Afghan Anti-Corruption Network (ANCN) on Thursday praised the Ministry of Interior for sacking some senior police officers on corruption charges, calling for their prosecution.
The ministry recently fired police officers in Kabul and some provinces on charges of dereliction of duty, inefficiency and corruption.
In a statement, the ANCN said the action should not be confined only to dismissing the graft-tainted officials, who should be put on trial. It believed Afghan police required drastic reform to strengthen peace and security.
Some international organisations have recently issued reports, accusing Afghan security organs of brazen corruption.
Police high-ups in eastern Nangarhar province were referred to judicial organs after they conducted an ill-planned security operation in Sherzad district.
