PUL-I-ALAM/LASHKARGAH/KABUL): Sixteen militants have been killed, seven others wounded and one captured alive in different security incidents, officials said on Wednesday.
Four fighters were killed while planting bombs on the Kabul-Gardez highway in Mohammad Agha district of central Logar province on Tuesday night, the governor’s spokesman said.
Din Mohammad Darwesh told Pajhwok Afghan News a burqa-clad insurgent was arrested alive in Pul-i-Alam, the capital of Logar, early Wednesday morning.
The detainee, resident of Padkhab area, planned to attack government officials in the city, said the Logar crime branch chief, Col. Mohammad Jan Abid.
Elsewhere, six rebels were killed and seven others wounded in clashes with Afghan forces in central Wardak and southern Paktika provinces.
Three guerillas were killed and seven others wounded during an operation by Afghan special forces in the Faizo area of Maidan Shahar, the capital of Maidan Wardak.
A statement from the Ministry of Defence said three other militants were killed and some weapons seized during the operation in the Said Karam district of Paktika.
According to another report, six militants were killed in the Sangin district of southern Helmand province.
A six-member Taliban group, sailing in a boat to cross the river between Musa Qala and Sangin districts, came under attack from security forces on Tuesday night, said the governor’s spokesman, Omar Zwak.
Taliban commander Mullah Ziaul Haq’s body was fished out by police and the rest were drowned in the river, he added. There was no immediate reaction from the militants about the incidents.
