KUNDUZ CITY (PAN): Police in northern Takhar province on Saturday claimed arresting two suspects in connection with Friday’s suicide attack that killed 20 people, including a district chief, in neighbouring Kunduz.
The bomber attacked a condolence ceremony at a mosque, killing the Dasht-i-Archi district chief, Sheikh Sadruddin Saadi, his bodyguards, the brother of a public representative and civilians.
Officials in Kunduz put the toll for those injured at 20, but figures collected from hospitals in Kunduz and Takhar showed 27 people had been wounded.
Kunduz Zonal Hospital Director Dr. Abdul Qudus Miankhel confirmed receiving four injured people and evacuation of 13 to the Doctors Without Borders-run facility and another 10 injured to the Takhar Civil Hospital.
Takhar police chief Maj. Gen. Abdul Hanan Qataghani said the two suspects were arrested in Khwaja Ghar district. They tried to escape in a car, but police chased them and arrested both, he added.
Some documents have been recovered from the detainees, according to Gen. Qataghani, who stopped short of giving details, pending an investigation.
