FAIZABAD (PAN to launch search operations against insurgents in several districts, an official said on Sunday.
Laced with modern weapons and military equipment, the 1700-member strong force was being deployed to insecure areas, the governor’s spokesman, Abdul Maroof Rasikh, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
The troops would conduct operations in Juram, Shuhada, Arghanch Khwah and Warduj districts and other restive areas to flush out militants, he said.
Qadam Shah, the battalion’s commander who has served in different positions, was a former jihadi commander in Badakhshan. “He better understands the situation in Badakhshan,” Rasikh remarked.
Security officials believe strengthening Afghan security forces is the key to overcoming insecurity.
Another ANA contingent has already been sent to the Warduj. The district chief, Daulat Mohammad Khan, confirmed the troops had arrived, but expressed his unawareness about their mission.
However, he said the Taliban were in control of 13 villages in the district.
