KABUL Abdul Ghani Baradar.
Leaders of Afghanistan, Pakistani and the United Kingdom agreed at their overnight meeting in London that an HPC delegation would visit the neighbouring country in near future to contact the Taliban leader.
Maulvi Shahzada Shahid, the peace body spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News; “The HPC is ready to send a team to Pakistan for talks with Mullah Baradar.”
A decision on the delegation’s composition and meeting agenda would be taken by the council, he said, without giving an exact date. He believed the former rebel commander could play an effective role in the peace process.
“Since Mullah Baradar has a positive approach to the peace drive and that’s why the council requested the Pakistan government to set him free,” the HPC spokesman said.
Shahzada acknowledged though contact with Baradar might not guarantee peace in the country, yet it would help pave the ground for stability.
