JALALABAD (PAN): A pregnant woman was among nine people, including six insurgents, killed during separate incidents of violence in eastern Nangarhar and Laghman provinces, officials said on Tuesday.
The pregnant woman was gunned down along with a male relative after her family clashed with another family over a tussle between children in Khan Qala area of Sherzad district on Tuesday, the Nangarhar governor’s spokesman said.
Ahmad Zia Abdulzai told Pajhwok Afghan News another four people were injured after elders jumped into the children quarrel.
He said security forces had detained one person with a pistol in connection with the killings.
A doctor at a hospital in nearby Khogyani district, Noor Agha, confirmed receiving two dead bodies and as many wounded people at the facility. He said the woman and the man had died on their way to the hospital. He confirmed the dead woman was pregnant.
The injured included a child and a man and they had been referred to the provincial civil hospital in Jalalabad.
Abdulzai said two insurgents were killed during an operation by Afghan Special Forces unit in the Sheshkhel area of Batikot district early on Tuesday.
In Laghman, four rebels were killed during a clash with security forces in Dawlat Shah district late on Monday night, the governor’s spokesman said.
Sarhadi Zwak said the clash that also left an Afghan National Army soldier dead took place in the Banda area and that the dead included Khan Mohammad Nizami, a notorious insurgent commander.
A fifth rebel was detained in injured condition.
