The Agency for TechnicalCooperation and Development (ACTED) staffers were gunned down six kilometres from Maimana, the provincial capital, the Faryab police chief said.

Mohammad Sadiq Laulashi, the deputy chief of the provincial council , blamed the Taliban for killing the ACTED staffers, who were serving the poor people of the province. The victims were residents of Faryab, he said.
Meanwhile, hundreds of Maimana residents gathered in front of the main provincial hospital in protest against the shooting. They accused the government of failing to provide security to humanitarian workers and demanded the immediate arrest of the attackers.
No one has so far claimed responsibility for the killing of ACTED employees. The Paris-headquartered relief agency has been active in Faryab in areas of reconstruction and vocational training.
