FAIZABAD (PAN): Two militants have been killed and two others injured in a gun battle with police in northern Badakhshan province, officials said on Tuesday.
Ahmad Nawid Frotan, Badakhshan’s governor spokesman, said police successfully repulsed militants’ attack when they stormed a security check post in Jurm district.
Police suffered no casualties in the clash, he said, adding clearance operation would soon be launched to purge the area of miscreants.
But Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said heavy losses had been inflicted on government forces during the incident.
Four days back, provincial officials claimed killing six rebels and wounding eight others, but Taliban denied the report as untrue.
In a separate incident, a robber was wounded and his accomplice was detained by police when they were trying to stop vehicles and rob passengers of their valuables in Yaftal district, Frotan concluded.
