FARAH CITY (PAN): Two road workers were killed when a roadside bomb ripped through their vehicle in the Pushtkoh district of western Farah province on Monday, an official said.
The blast took place around 9:30am and the victims belonged to a construction company working on a road project between Matbakh and Inzar villages, said the governor’s spokesman, Abdul Rahman Zhwandai.
Abdul Rahim Haideri, the district chief, blamed the bomb attack on the Taliban, saying it came a week after four road workers were killed in a similar explosion.
Without going into details, the district chief claimed foreign intelligence agencies were involved in killing road workers in the district.
A resident of the area, Nasrullah, said a third worker was injured in the blast.
There has been no claim of responsibility.
Elsewhere, Afghan National Army troops opened fire at civilians in the capital of central Uruzgan province after a bomb explosion, killing one and injuring three others.
The incident took place before noon in Cheghak area of Tirinkot, where a passing convoy of the ANA’s 205th Atal Military Corps came under bomb attack.
Corps Commander Gen. Mohammad Rassoul said the troops, who remained unhurt in the blast, spotted an individual running toward the village and shot him to death.
But a relative of the victim, Wahidullah, said the 20-year-old was sitting in front of his home. He ran toward home in fear after the blast, but the troops opened fire at him.
He said his cousin had no links with any militant group. He said his many family members worked in government and non-governmental organisations and his father was a military officer.
