TALOQAN (Pajhwok): Five drug smugglers had been killed during this year by the Tajikistan border police, local officials said.
The governor’s spokesman, Sunnatullah Taimori, said two smugglers were trying to transfer their contraband from Chah Aab district to the neighbouring country. The smuggler was gunned down by the Tajikistan border police while his accomplice managed to flee.
He told Pajhwok Afghan News that body of the smuggler— Mullah Abdul Rahim— had been delivered to the Afghan security forces.
Syed Sarwar Husaini, Kunduz police spokesman, said dozens of villages were cleared of rebels during a clean-up operation in the Chahar Dara district.
In a move to provide a level playing field for voters, a cleanup offensive was started in the restive4 Chahar Dara district, he added.
Around 32 villages had been purged of militants during the operation, which was initiated two days back, he informed.
He said two rebels— Mullah Amir and Qari Musai— the residents of Asqalan were arrested by the police with two guns recovered from their possession.
A number of check points had also been established in cleared areas, which would help control rebels activities, he concluded.
