JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Eight suspected militants have been killed and three others caught alive in different operations and encounters in eastern Nangarhar province, an official claimed on Monday.
Two insurgents were killed and as many wounded on Sunday night when the bomb they were planting near a police check-post in Chaparhar district went off prematurely.
Police spokesman Col. Hazrat Hussain Mashriqiwal told Pajhwok Afghan News security forces killed a rebel leader, named Akhundzada, during an overnight encounter in Hesarak district.
In the Khwazai area of Lalpura district, three fighters were detained and weapons recovered during a security operation, the police spokesman said. The detainees including a local militant leader are under investigation.
“During a crackdown in Khogyani district the other day, Afghan security forces killed five Taliban,” Mashriqiwal said, claiming two rocket launchers, two Kalashnikovs and ammunitions were seized.
