Women vow support to Ahmadzai, Sayyaf

MAIMANA/SHIBERGHAN (Pajhwok): Hundreds of women in Faryab and Jawzjan provinces on Tuesday gathered in support of presidential contenders Dr. Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai and Abdul Rab Rassoul Sayyaf.

At least 700 women held a meeting in Maimana, the capital of Faryab, and announced their support to Ahmadzai, hailing him a suitable candidate for the presidency. He could meet the challenges pull out Afghanistan, they believed.

Salima Sultani, Ahmadzai’s campaign office head in Faryab, said women of the province would vote for the ex-finance minister — the best choice to put the country on the road to progress and prosperity.

“We strongly support Ahmadzai’s first vice-president Gen. Abdul Rashid Dostum, who has liberated the country from the Taliban,” she added. The campaign for presidential elections unleashed on Feb. 2 and would continue till April 2 this year.

Separately, thousands of women attended a gathering in support of Sayyaf in Shiberghan, the capital of Jawzjan.  Bibi Haji Zahra, Sayyaf’s supporter, said the scholar had promised to ensure a fair justice system.

Eng. Mohammad Barai, head of Sayyaf’s campaign office, said the candidate had the ability and will to ensure rule of law, eliminate corruption and serve the Afghans.
