KABUL (Pajhwok): The Ministry of Defence (MoD) on Thursday praised the role of Afghan National Army (ANA) Special Forces’ Unit for paving the ground for peaceful polls, conducting 300 search operations.
Addressing a news conference in Kabul hours after an end to the two-month election campaign, MoD Spokesman Zahir Azimi said security forces were well prepared to protect Saturday’s ballot.
Maj. Gen. Syed Abdul Karim, the Special Forces commander, said security personnel were better trained and equipped and had the capacity to meet challenges and ward off threats during the process.
The Special Forces unit, established three years back, is comprised of ANA soldiers, police and officials of the National Directorate of Security (NDS) — the Afghan spy service.
