LASHKARGAH (Pajhwok): With the exception of Nawzad and Musa Kala districts, ballot boxes from all parts of southern Helmand province have been transferred to Lashkargah, the capital, the Independent Election Commission (IEC) said on Monday.
IEC Director Qudratullah Naqshbandi told Pajhwok Afghan News ballot boxes had been moved to the provincial capital without any problem. The turnout was beyond his expectations, he said, but did not put a specific figure on the number of voters. Sources said 100,000 voters in the province took part in the polls.
Three ballot boxes were lost in Sangin district. Rahim Gul Alikhel, the Independent Electoral Compliant Commission (IECC) chief for Helmand, said 40 complaints of irregularities had been received.
Most of the complaints came against observers and IEC officials, he added. Of 219 polling stations established throughout the province, around 147 opened on the voting day.
