HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): At least eight members of a family were killed in a roadside bombing in the Shindand district of western Herat province on Wednesday, an official said.
The explosion occurred in the Zerkoh village where security forces launched a clearing operation against militants a couple of days ago, a provincial council candidate said.
Noor Mohammad Zarifi told Pajhwok Afghan News the civilians wanted to flee the operation in a rickshaw that struck the roadside bomb. All on board the three-wheeler were killed.
The district’s administrative chief also confirmed the incident, but gave no information about causalities. But local police officials were unaware of the incident.
