discriminatory issues, defamation and irreverence against each other have been stirred up in rallies and press conferences and or on the TV/radio advertisement of the two leading candidates. Using such improper manner is against the Electoral Law and the Regulation on Media Activities during Election.
The Electoral Media Commission, given the situation and the importance of the campaign period, notifies the candidates and their campaign offices and the media that:
1. The presidential candidates and their electoral campaign offices are henceforth obliged to strictly avoid applying discriminatory languages and tribal, racial, linguistic, regional, and religious prejudices which cause split and disunity among the Afghan people.
2. However according to the current laws in the country, covering every kind of electoral campaign is an explicit right of the media, but the media are not allowed to broadcast/publish schismatic programs and campaign of the presidential candidates which encourage differences among citizens of the country.
3. In addition, to maintain their impartiality in relation to coverage of electoral campaign, the media are obliged to respect personality and dignity of the candidates and prevent from broadcasting/publishing their campaign advertisements which are considered to defamatory or insulting to the other candidate. If the content of this press release is overlooked, the offender will be treated in accordance with the law.
