KABUL election, said in current circumstances both president candidates should wait for a thorough check of the voting results scheduled for July 22.
“We call on both candidates to wait for a thorough check of the voting results which are to be announced on the 22nd of July,” a statement from the ministry in Moscow said.
On July 7, the Independent Election Commission (IEC) announced the preliminary results of the second round. Former Finance Minister Dr. Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai leads with more than 56 percent of votes.
However, his rivalDr. Abdullah Abdullah does not recognise defeat, accusing the authorities and the IEC of committing massive fraud during the vote count.
“We do hope the situation around the presidential election will be resolved peacefully. It is necessary that the outpouring of popular will were recognized by the majority of the population and the main political sources of Afghanistan,” it added.
