GHAZNI CITY (Pajhwok): Suspected Taliban have kidnapped 11 deminers in the insurgency-plagued Andar district of southern Ghazni province, an official said on Saturday.
Shafiq Nang, the governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News the deminers were were kidnapped by gunmen on their way to Kabul from Kandahar province. They were taken an undisclosed location.
The incident occurred Friday afternoon, said Nang, adding that police had started conducting raids in several areas to recover the captives.
District police chief, 2nd Lt. Lutfullah Kamran, confirmed the kidnapping and alleged Taliban commander Mullah Idrees and his men were behind the abduction. He said the individuals were kept in Andar district.
The Taliban have not yet commented on the incident.
