KABUL (Pajhwok): The Change and Continuity team, led by presidential contender Dr. Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai, on Tuesday described as “emotional” the rival camp’s decision to withdraw from the political process.
Faizullah Zaki, a spokesman for Ghani’s campaign, told reporters that both the candidates had promised in a joint statement they that would remain committed to resolving issues.
He called upon the Reforms and Unanimity team to review its decision of boycotting the audit process and talks over the formation of a unity government.
The Reform and Unanimity team, headed by presidential candidate Dr. Abdullah Abdullah, on Monday warned to withdraw from the political process if its demands were not met by Tuesday.
Fazal Sanchakari, a spokesman for Abdullah’s campaign, told reporters in Kabul that they were running out of patience and gave a deadline until today for the acceptance of their demands.
He said their logical demands about the vote audit process had been ignored by the Independent Election Commission and the United Nations.
