KABUL (Pajhwok): President Hamid Karzai on Friday conferred the Ghazi Amanullah Medal on former president and spiritual leader Sibghatullah Mujaddedi.
The Presidential Palace said Mujaddedi, also a former chief peace negotiator, had been given the prestigious award in recognition of his outstanding services to the nation.
Speaking on the occasion, President Karzai acknowledged Mujaddedi’s contribution to efforts at bringing the people and the government closer, as well as promoting the peace process.
“Mujaddedi has worked very sincerely to serve the religion and the Afghans. He has been a strong supporter of this land and its people,” the president said in a statement from his office.
In his brief remarks, the ex-president said he was not a supporter of any particular group. Instead he had tried his best to serve the entire nation and Islam, he explained.
