Anis Haqqani, a son of the group’s founder Jalaluddin Haqqani, was captured along dreaded commander Hafiz Rashid during an operation in Khost province on October 14, a statement from the spy service said.
Anis Haqqani played a key role in strategic decisions of the outlawed network, blamed for a string of deadly attacks on NATO and Afghan forces. He has special computer skills. He also raised funds for operations.
According to NDS, Hafiz Rashid is the son of Mohammad Omer, hailing from the Ismailkhel district of Khost. He lived in the Chakwal district of Pakistan’s Punjab province. He was shadow governor for the district.
Recently, he was appointed as military commander in southeastern provinces of Afghanistan. Rashid was responsible for selecting targets and providing equipment to suicide bombers. He allegedly brought suicide attackers from Peshawar and Waziristan to Kabul.
The network was blamed for a car bombing that killed more than 40 people in the Orgun district of Paktika in July.
