KABUL by arresting five would-be suicide bombers.
National Directorate of Security (NDS) spokesman Abdul Haseeb Siddiqui told reporters the five detainees planned to carry out suicide attacks in Kabul and Mazar-i-Sharif, the capital of northern Balkh province.
He said one of the five detainees, who was arrested in Mazar-i-Sharif, had the plan to target Dostum during his journey to northern Afghanistan, but stopped short of going into details.
The official did not identify the man held in Mazar-i-Sharif, but named the four others as Abdul Manan, Shamsullah, Saifullah and Qudratullah, all arrested in capital Kabul.
He said the four detainees had confessed to planning to carry out suicide attacks in Kabul after receiving training across the border.
The past two weeks saw four suicide attacks taking place in Kabul, including two on foreign troops.
