LONDON (Pajhwok): The Omid Bahar Company of Afghanistan would export over 1,000 tonnes of pomegranate juice to the United Kingdom (UK), an official said on Wednesday.
Mustafa Sadiq, the company’s head, told reporters a deal had been signed with a Britain company under which Omid Bahar would export 1,000 tonnes of pomegranate juice to the UK worth $5 million.
Some 15,000 tonnes of second and third grade pomegranate, he said, would be collected from the market and its juice exported to the UK. Under the deal, almost 15,000 Afghan orchards in Kapisa, Kabul and Samangan would be provided with the opportunity to sell their pomegranates to Omid Bahar, he added.
It was the second biggest contract to be signed by his company, he said, adding that the process of 1,000 juice export to UK would be completed in 18 months.
Atiqullah Nasrat, representative of Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Industries (ACCI), was also present during the contract signing ceremony.
He said that President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani in his current visit to UK would hold wide ranging meetings with business community to strengthen trade ties between Afghanistan and international community.
