KHOST CITY (Pajhwok): A number of players and federations alleged on Friday that officials of the Olympic Department in southeastern Khost province were involved in administrative corruption and did not discharge their duties efficiently.
The Olympic Department neither provided local players with a level playing field nor utilised available resources for promoting sports at national and international levels, they complained.
Speaking to Pajhwok Afghan News at the conclusion of four months of football matches, Roohullah — an organiser — said 43 teams from Khost province took part in the event.
Officials of the Olympic Department did not bother to watch the event or provide them with any facility, he complained, stressing the need for encouraging sportspeople in the border province.
Muhammad Yusuf, a member of the Haider Football Club, said an incompetent official had been heading the Khost Olympic Department for the last 10 years. But he had done nothing to promote the sport.
He demanded the Afghanistan Olympic Committee to reconsider efficient individuals to head the provincial directorate to tap talent and produce players of high calibre.
Ahmad Wali Zadran, head of the Football Federation in Khost, said the Olympic Directorate was playing no role in facilitating local players and sport federations.
