KABUL in five provinces, an official said on Saturday.
Ahmad Fahim Jabbari, in charge of the project, told Pajhwok Afghan News greenhouses would help develop agriculture in the northern zone and subsequently strengthen economic condition of locals.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock, women will be trained how to sow and protect plants from cold weather. Of the 445 greenhouses, 145 will be built in Balkh, 50 in Faryab, 130 in Samangan, 60 in Jawzjan and as many in Sar-i-Pul.
The process of building the greenhouses formally began on Saturday in Samangan, where materials for building the structures and vegetable seeds and saplings were distributed to women.
Agriculture Director Eng. Abdul Majeed Kherkhwa said women of Hazrat Sultan and Khuram Sarbagh took part in the project.
Nooria, a resident of Larghan village in Aibak, the provincial capital, said she intended to grow vegetables in the greenhouse and build a shop for her husband in bazaar to sell the produce.
She said women could play a great role in strengthening economic conditions of their families.
