KABUL (Pajhwok): An intelligence official said on Thursday insurgents were not only the enemy of security forces but also of the people.
Speaking on the last day of “Police Recognition Week”, National Directorate of Security spokesman Abdul Hasib Siddique said security forces laid down their lives for the country’s stability.
“It is the enemy who belongs to no religion or country,” he said, adding the strength and ability of Afghan security forces had tremendously improved over the past decade.
The NATO ends December 31 and the alliance will embark on a new mission to train and support Afghan forces.
Interior Ministry spokesman Siddiqui Siddique said insurgents had been trying their best this year to weaken the government but they did not succeed.
“Our forces have faced the worst form of terrorism. Their aim is to slaughter our people, but they (militants) should realise that they won’t achieve what they want,” he added.
Minority lawmaker Anarkali Hunaryar underlined the need for recruitment of more female police. “People should support their forces. Those who kill innocent children at schools have no religion.”
The strength of Afghan police has reached 157,000, including 2,200 policewomen.
