TEHRAN (Pajhwok): Iranian and Afghan officials said sustainable security in region can be merely restored by the regional nations, and called for widening and deepening of Tehran-Kabul security ties.
In a meeting between Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Ali Shamkhani and Afghanistan‘s National Security Advisor Hanif Atmar in Tehran, the two officials discussed ways of boosting their cooperation, particularly boosting security at joint borders.
Shamkhani said the policy of spreading insecurity and terror has always been traditional plot of certain powers to destroy national capacities of Muslim states to justify their military and economic presence in the target countries.
Shamkhani voiced pleasure in the withdrawal of the NATO forces from Afghanistan and said the Afghan army and security forces are able enough to defend national interests, citizens and campaign against terrorism.
The Afghan official for his part lauded Iran’s positive role in development and progress of Afghanistan and hosting Afghan refugees during long years of war.
He said expansion of security cooperation with Iran to restore sustainable peace and tranquility to Afghanistan stands atop Kabul’s agenda.
The Iranian official further emphasized Iran’s significant role in Afghanistan’s reconstruction, and expressed Tehran’s preparedness to enhance its security and economic cooperation with Kabul to help the country overcome its problems.
