LASHKARGAH/MAHMOOD RAQI (Pajhwok): Intelligence officials seized thousands of bullets and explosives during an overnight raid on a house in the capital of southern Helmand province, a senior official said on Sunday.
The National Directorate of Security (NDS) personnel recovered more than 10,000 bullets of different guns and homemade bombs from the house in Bashran locality on the outskirts of Lashkargah on Saturday night, Deputy Governor Mohammad Jan Rassoul Yar told reporters.
The seizure included 3,740 Kalashnikov bullets, 6,180 machinegun bullets, 45 rocket propelled grenade (RPG) rounds, 254 hand-grenades and 20 landmines.
In central Kapisa province, police detained a man allegedly transferring opium inside the central prison, the facility’s in-charge in the capital city, Mahmood Raqi, Col. Nasir Ahmad Malakzai, said.
The detained person posing a visitor had hidden the drugs in a bag of walnuts he carried, he said.
He said around 40 prisoners addicted to drugs had been provided treatment last year and they had stopped using drugs.
