KABUL (Pajhwok): A second emergency meeting in 24 hours chaired by Chief Executive Officer Abdullah Abdullah on Wednesday decided to focus efforts on saving lives first in avalanches and floods before clearing roads from snow.
The meeting also extended condonlences to families who lost their beloved ones to avalances and floods across the country, a statement from the CEO’s office said.
It said Abdullah directed the Emergency Response Committee (ERC) to focus its efforts on saving those trapped beneath the snow first and then clearing roads from snow to taffic.
Wais Barmak, the committee chief, said their teams had reached areas across the country and efforts were underway to send extra man-power to help families in the hardest-hit areas.
Barmak said he had also contacted the United Nations for cooperation with rescue teams.
